Healthline Launches Initiatives to Inform and Support Americans During Election Season 2020

Healthline.com is equipping Americans with the evidence-based, medically vetted information they need to vote safely and make informed decisions when filling out their ballot

SAN FRANCISCO — Oct. 6, 2020 – Health and healthcare policy are weighing heavily on the minds of Americans as voting season commences.

Findings from a recent survey conducted by the Harris Poll on behalf of America’s leading digital health brand Healthline.com confirm that 71% of Americans living with a health condition feel the results of this election will have more of an impact on them personally than past elections, and 68% of Americans are concerned that they or a family member may get exposed to the coronavirus when going out to vote in person.

“Every presidential election is tense, but this election will likely be the most stressful of our lifetimes,” said Healthline’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Elaine Hanh Le. “We all need to take precautions to ensure our health and safety when voting. And, importantly, everyone who is eligible should vote.”

To that end, Healthline is providing actionable, evidence-based information for Americans to make the best decisions about their health when voting — both in terms of who they vote for and how they exercise their vital democratic right.

Included are:

  • Healthline Live Town Hall: Industry experts and patient advocates will discuss healthcare policy in a free online event open to all media and the public on October 8 at 11:00 a.m. ET. Panelists include Dr. Susan Bailey, President of the American Medical Association; John Rother, President of the National Coalition on Health Care; Dr. Jamila Taylor, Director of Health Care Reform and Senior Fellow of The Century Foundation; and Alexis Dent, author, marketer and advocate for Black maternal health equity. Additional patient advocates will be named. More information can be found here. Free registration is here. This is the second in a series of Healthline Live Town Halls. The inaugural edition on August 18 featured Dr. Anthony Fauci.

  • Healthline Voter Guide: A side-by-side comparison of the healthcare policies of President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, including policies related to COVID-19, the Affordable Care Act, prescription drug costs, mental health, and racial healthcare disparities in America.

  • Guide to Voting Safely in Person During the Pandemic: Expert advice on ways to minimize risk for Americans who plan to vote in person on November 3.

  • Partnership With Vote America to help Americans check their registration status, register to vote, request an absentee ballot, vote by mail, find their polling place, contact their election office, and receive election reminders.

Additional findings from the Healthline Harris Poll survey include:

  • 65% of Americans say the upcoming presidential election will have more of an impact on them personally than past elections

  • 70% of Americans are concerned about a spike in novel coronavirus cases after Americans go out to vote in the presidential election; Hispanic and Black Americans are more likely to be concerned, as are parents

“Encouragingly, 86% of Americans say it feels good to vote,” Dr. Le said, referring to the Healthline survey. “Let’s all make that feeling count.”
